Get Rid of Sunburn!

skin-cancer-jessica-wu.jpgI am notorious in my family for being a sunscreenaholic. (In fact, I’ve been known to chase after my brother and dad on vacation with Neutrogena spray-on sunscreen, spraying and laughing maniacally while they flee my attempts). I reapply sunscreen every two hours, and I slather it on oft-forgotten places (like my lips and the tops of my feet). That said, there’s always ONE place that I always forget. Right now I’m on holiday in sunny Lake Como in Italy, and where did I forget to apply? My ears! And now they’re the slightest bit rosy, grrr. I called upon Los Angeles dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu for some tips on beating sunburn, and here’s the wisdom she shared with me:

Fringe Benefits: Riccardo Maggiore’s Tips For Trimming Your Bangs

rachel-bilson-bangs.jpgThere are only a few things I don’t like about having curly hair, and at the top of the list is not being able to pull off bangs. I love them, and have always felt serious hair envy toward those who have perfect, eyebrow-skimming fringe (Zoey Deschanel, Rachel Bilson, and Nicole Richie: I’m looking at you). If you’re lucky enough to be able to rock the bangs, here are some tips from NYC stylist Riccardo Maggiore for how to maintain your ‘do at home:

Beauty Battle: Selena Gomez vs. Lucy Hale

lucy-hale-selena-gomez-teen-choice-awards-2010.jpgWhen getting ready for a night out on the town (or if you’re a celeb- an exclusive awards show), there’s no better way to dress up your look than with smoky eyes. A little bit of dark eye makeup can instantly take your look from daytime cute to nighttime beautiful, without changing much else about the makeup you’re already wearing. Both Selena Gomez and “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale rocked smoky eyes at the Teen Choice Awards this week as the perfect finishing touch to their glamorous red carpet looks. While Selena Gomez went with a silvery-gray metallic smoky eye, pairing the look with nude lipgloss and perfect waves; Lucy Hale showed up with a more coppery version of the smoky eye, pink lips, and tousled, voluminous hair. Both these brunette beauties looked stunningly pretty, but who do you think wore the look best? Tell us in the comments section below!

How to get perfectly groomed eyebrows!

ali-michael-eyebrows.jpgEyebrows. Can’t live with them (if they’re thick and unruly), definitely can’t live without them (eek!). When I was a teen, I was oblivious to my eyebrowsblame my hippie all-girls education! But once I entered college, I got a crash course in brow grooming from a friend. Back then, super thin, arched brows were in. Now, thankfully, quite the opposite is in fashionhealthy, groomed eyebrows (think Ali Michael, not Ali Lohan). I got some tips from Tonya Crooks, celebrity brow expert on brow-grooming 101:

“Bigger, thicker, fuller brows are what’s in right now. But they’re still manicured, just with a rougher edge on top.

1. Assess your face and determine whether you have an arch

2. Brush your brows to determine which direction the hair grows and tweeze in that direction

3. Try not tweeze the hairs near the bridge of your nose, which is where the most important hairs are and can dictate the shape of the entire brow.

4. Tweeze one hair at a time - if you pull too many hairs out at once, you risk bald spots and not every hair always grows back.”
