Get Perfect Beachy Waves With T3

As a beauty intern (and all-around hair and makeup fanatic) I’m constantly browsing pictures of award shows and premieres admiring the perfectly coiffed tresses of all my favorite celebrities. And, without fail, the one style that I swoon over time after time are tousled waves. Not too over the top, but still glamorous enough for a night out, I’ve done my fair share of experimenting with the look, but have never quite nailed it. Luckily for me, and any of the rest of you who have longed to perfect the beachy-waves look at home, T3 has a new video up on YouTube in which Gregory Warmsley, the director of product design at T3, teaches you how to get perfect waves in an easy step-by-step process. At just under 4 minutes, the video is short but to the point, making it a quick and easy way to learn how to do your hair like the pros. Check out more of T3’s videos on their youtube channel. Gisele Bundchen waves, here I come!

Beauty Look Of The Week: Scarlett Johansson at the Tony Awards

ScarlettTony.jpgWho: Scarlett Johansson
Where: Tony Awards
When: June 13, 2010
The look: Scarlett’s eyes were shimmery, but not overpowering in refreshing lavender. Her subtly glossy pout and simplistically pretty up-do complemented her bold features.
Get the look: “I used my Oribe Gel Serum throughout the hair and blow-out for smoothness,” says hairstylist Oribe. “Then, I curled hair with a large-barrel curling iron and completed a full set on the hair, using my Soft Lacquer Hair Spray to lock in style and shine.  Then, spray Dry Texturizing Spray on the roots only, tease hair, and put up in a chic French twist. Finally, finish with another round of Soft Lacquer Hair Spray all over the hair to seal in style.”Makeup artist Gionpaolo Ceciliato used Dolce & Gabbana The Make Up to create Scarlett’s look: “Line inner and outer eyelids with The Eyeliner in Dahlia.  Next, blend the purple shadow from the Eyeshadow Duo in Dazzling and pink shadow from The Eyeshadow Duo in Guilty on eyelids.  To complete the eye look, apply several coats of The Mascara in black on top and bottom lashes. Keep the rest of the face natural by applying a bit of The Blush in Provocative on the upper portion of cheeks and The Classic Cream Lipstick in Nude on lips.”

Summer Sparkle

sparkle.jpgUsually by this time of year my spending gets a little out of control on breezy dresses and sandals, but this year I’m overcome with the urge to buy…bracelets? I don’t know why, but all I want are delicate sparkly bracelets. I’m considering getting a Giles & Brother Tiny Rope Anchor Bracelet, but my absolute favorites come from BRVTVS and Mars Jewelry. I’m rocking the little gold cone and chain Porcia bracelet from BRVTVS and I totally went overboard on Recoleta and Essaouria bracelets from Mars. I remember when I was a kid, at the end of summer I always had a bracelet and anklet tan line. I’m hoping for a repeat this year!

Welcome, Beauty Intern Allie!

Allie.jpgEvery girl has a dream. Some want to be doctors or teachers, others want to be professional athletes, actresses, or maybe even dancers. Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to work for a magazine. When I was about ten years old, my friends and I would sit in each other’s bedrooms and spend hours flipping through the pages of all the newest teen magazines (including Teen Vogue), reading the stories together, tearing out pictures of our favorite celebrities, and circling all the beauty products and new clothes that we wanted to buy. It was then that I decided that working for a major fashion magazine was my dream job and, throughout the years, my desire to one day achieve this goal has only increased.

Going to high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, I soon realized that opportunities to become involved in the world of fashion magazines were limited from the not-so-metropolitan city where I was raised, so when I was accepted to Boston University during my senior year of high school, I jumped at the chance to move to a big city out East, where there were an abundance of opportunities for an aspiring journalist like myself. After almost two years of gaining experience at my college newspaper, then completing internships at local magazines, I was itching to land an internship in New York, the mecca of fashion magazines. Near the end of my sophomore year, I started emailing the editors at my favorite publications, telling them about my qualifications and my overwhelming desire to intern with them. Imagine my surprise and excitement then, when I received an email back from Amber Kallor, the beauty assistant at Glamour, asking when I might be able to come in for an interview. A few weeks later, I was on a train to New York City, where I came to the Cond Nast building for the first time, met the beauty department at Glamour, and told them about my passion for magazines, journalism and all things beauty. At that point, even though I wasn’t sure if I would land the internship or not, coming to New York that day was an incredible experience. Not only did I get a chance to submerge myself in the hustle and bustle of big city life, but I also got to go inside the Conde Nast building, where many of my favorite magazines are produced! It was the equivalent of a five year old’s first trip to Disneyland!

A few days later, I got a call back asking if I would like to accept the position as a summer beauty intern and I gladly accepted, then spent a few minutes jumping for joy with my roommate. Before I knew it, the school year was over and I had officially moved to New York to begin my internship, where I would spend the summer organizing the beauty closet, keeping inventory of new products, attending events and assisting the editors with daily tasks. After no time at all, I was hooked on working at such a major magazine and I quickly developed a strong passion for beauty. As I spent my time in the beauty closet at Glamour, handling beauty products day in and day out, I grew to love the idea of one day finding a job where I could combine my passion for writing with my love of all things beauty. When the summer came to an end and my internship was officially over, I knew I needed to come back for more.

Luckily, through the relationships I had forged at Glamour, I was able to get in touch with Laurel about an internship with Teen Vogue for this summer, and before I knew it, I had landed a position interning with the beauty department. Even now, as I sit here in the Teen Vogue offices overlooking Times Square, I am overcome with excitement that I have once again been offered such an amazing opportunity to work behind the scenes at one of my favorite magazines. Every day that I come into work and step off the elevator to see that big red Teen Vogue sign, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world and I can’t wait to work with Eva, Jane, and Laurel throughout the next few months. I have always respected Teen Vogue for their ability to encourage and inspire girls everywhere, no matter what their circumstances, and now that I have been welcomed as the newest beauty intern here, I feel like I am living proof of Teen Vogue’s message that your dreams really can become a reality, as long as you have the determination to go after them and the persistence to never give up.
