A redhead with a milky white complexion, Meghan was always teased for her pale skin. “People would call me dead or see-through. When I was seventeen, I got a tan on vacation that I was determined to keep,” she remembers. She soon started using tanning beds once a week for two years to maintain her new skin color, without her parents’ knowledge. I don’t know about you guys, but when I’m at the beach I have a VERY strict routine: slather myself in ultra-high SPF (usually 60+), sit under an umbrella or tree, and plonk on the biggest, widest-brimmed hat I can find. I just got a reality check from my friends at Salon AKS, though, about my latter must-have, and I had to share with everyone: “Wearing a hat in the sun might seem like a good idea, but it’s not, if the hat doesn’t have ventilation. Heat is a culprit behind hair damage, so wear a hat made out of breathable material so hair doesn’t get overheated.” Straw hat, here I come!
