Get Lea’s Look!

79949_Lea_Michele_23rd_Annual_Kids_Choice_Awards_in_LA_March_27_2010_03_122_373lo.jpgAs most of you guys know by now, I’m pretty obsessed with Glee and, by
proxy, Lea Michele. I love her wacky, Type A school-girl outfits on the show
(they bring me back to my uniformed days in grade school and high
school)–but how GORGEOUS did she look last night at the Kid’s Choice Awards?
Wowza! I had to get the scoop from her makeup artist Melanie Inglessis. The
makeup is definitely prom-perfect: “For Lea’s look, I wanted to keep her
make up simple yet flawless and classic. It had to compliment her hair and
dress without overpowering it. Lea has amazing bone structure so once she
decided to keep the hair off her face in a simple ponytail, coupled with her
gorgeous pink dress, we went for a modern day ballerina look. I didn’t want
a particular feature to stand out but instead I created an overall balanced
look to celebrate her youth and beauty. For her face, I wanted her
complexion to be flawless and bright so I started by applying COVERGIRL
Simply Ageless Concealer
under her eyes to make sure she looked wide awake
followed by an overall base of Giorgio Armani Luminous Foundation. Then, I
applied Make Up For Ever HD powder to set the look followed by a
highlighter. On Lea’s cheeks I started with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless
Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach
to create a warm flush of color followed by
Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder to futher accentuate her cheekbones. On the
eyes, I wanted something natural, but still bold enough for the red carpet
so I applied COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire on the lid and
crease and the white shade of COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke to
the browbone and inner corner of the eye. Next, I added COVERGIRL Eye
Enhancers in Cafe Au Lait
to darken the crease for a little more drama,
followed by COVERGIRL Perfect Blend Eyeliner in Black/Brown. To lengthen and
define Lea’s gorgeous lashes I applied many coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast
Length Mascara
in Black. Since we decided to accentuate her eyes, I wanted
to go more natural and just use a slight stain for her lips. I used Kevyn
Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil
followed by COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Bit
of Blossom
.”

Make Up Tip: Get Full Sensuous Lips

Here are a couple easy tips on how to get your lips to look fuller * apply highlighter or balm into a bow of your upper lip and into the corners of the mouth. This will make your lips stand out and look fuller * a little secret, if you have thin lips you may prefer to use a pencil with a bit dull tip to line them. Hard thin edges make lips look smaller. Or just make sure to blend your lip liner.*

Imju Fiberwig, Totally Worth The Hype!

fiberwig.jpgAt the recommendation of our lovely Fashion Assistant, Sarah Pillai, I picked up a tube of Imju Fiberwig Mascara. Sarah always has a summery glow, shiny hair, and a super girlyness that I envy (from my bruised shins to frizzy locks), and while the mascara didn’t transform me into a well-groomed lady, it did make my lashes look CRAZY long, and (major plus) didn’t flake at all. It’s actually the top selling mascara in Japan, known for giving a fake lash look. I’ll say, without a doubt, this is in my top three mascara hall of fame! Score a tube for $24 at Sephora!

Straight Ahead: JUVEXIN and Global Keratin!

100_1865.JPGNot all keratin are created equal! That’s the Global Keratin motto, and
after trying the process, I would have to agree. Nearly every salon I walk
by in NYC is offering some variation of the keratin hair straightening
treatment, so I’ve been very curious as to how the process works. My mane is
difficult to tackle every time I wash it and the process of blow-drying and
straightening takes way more time than I wish to spend on it. I visited
Leslie Correa, owner and master hairstylist at the Capelli D’Oro Salon, who
helped me decide the perfect keratin formula for my hair and explained to me
the perks of making the Global Keratin commitment.

African American Hair Tips

aliciakeysAMA.jpgLike the ever-changing styles on the runways and red carpets, hairdos also
undergo constant change. I recently asked celebrity hair stylist Tippi
Shorter, an Avon Global Stylist Advisor and creative hair artist, for some
of her go-to hair tips and tricks. Tippi, who is responsible for creating
looks for beautiful hair role models like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Beyonce,
gave me some fast and easy ways to change up your hair routine without a
personal stylist.

Today Is World Water Day!

water.jpgConsider, just for one second, how much water you use on a daily basis: washing your face, drinking, doing dishes, the list goes on. It’s something that we’re lucky enough to take for granted here in the US… But not everyone is quite as fortunate as us–over 1.1 billion people rely on unsafe water to quench their thirst. Luckily, there are easy ways to give back. Check out this video from CoverGirl (who has donated $500,000 to the Children’s Safe Drinking Water charity): And visit csdw.org to educate yourself on this important cause.

Perfect Your Prom Blow-Out!

promblowout.jpgFor those of you who like to keep things simple on the hair front (which is something I totally recommend, prom-wise, since you’ll probably be dancing a ton and having a great time, and who wants to worry whether their updo has come undone?) I turned to the master of the bouncy blowout, Ted Gibson, for his tips on how to give yourself the simplest of styles for the big night!
