Cold Weather Exercise Tips

cold-weather-exercize.jpgIt’s getting chilly out there! When I was in high school, I always marked the beginning of fall when–with my track and field team–we would run outside and we’d need to put on a few extra base layers… Those of you who are outdoors exercisers (not me, anymore!!), here are some great tips from Debbie Berenson, a Certified Personal Trainer and the owner of One2One BodyScapes in Easton, MA.

“In the summer, when the humidity levels are high, hotter temperatures can inhibit your performance. Crisp, cold air provides a great atmosphere for a more effective and longer workout! Get your Daily Dose of Calcium and Vitamin D

BBF_yogurt.jpgDid you know that 90% of your adult bone mass is established by the time you’re about 18 years old? It’s true, according to the folks at Best Bones Forever!, a new campaign that’s encouraging tweens and teens to get active and boost their calcium and vitamin D intake–a message that we at Teen Vogue wholeheartedly support!! After all, fewer than 1 in 10 young girls who are in their most critical bone-building stage get an adequate amount of calcium (about 1,300 milligrams), which is really SCARY. As 12-year-old Molly Lippert, pre-teen ambassador for the National Osteoporosis Foundation, says, “Some girls don’t eat well to try and be thin, but eating less and not getting enough calcium isn’t helping you, it’s wrecking you!” So skip the soda, pick up a glass of milk (chocolate milk if you’d like!), and check out bestbonesforever.gov for more info on how you and your friends can start getting your body into strong shape!   Read the rest of this entry »
